That is 1.4% above the $149,280 national median, and the width of the range reflects how much of Illinois HR employment sits in corporate headquarters roles.

Chicago-Naperville-Elgin at $156,770, then Peoria at $154,490, Bloomington at $144,780, Springfield at $129,310 and Decatur at $128,460. Peoria running within two thousand dollars of Chicago is the tell: downstate Illinois headquarters pay headquarters rates regardless of metro size.

No licence exists — Illinois does not regulate the occupation and IDFPR issues no HR credential. Employers screen on the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP and the HRCI PHR or SPHR, but in this state the differentiator is usually substantive: fluency with the Illinois Human Rights Act, the Biometric Information Privacy Act, the Equal Pay Act registration certificate and the Chicago and Cook County ordinance layer.
