A team is about to ship something you believe is architecturally wrong, and you have no authority over them.

Establish first whether it is wrong or merely different from your preference. If it is genuinely harmful, put the specific consequence, the evidence and a concrete alternative in writing to the team and their leadership, with a recommendation and a decision deadline. If the decision goes against you, record the risk and support the team. The judgement scored is proportionality and knowing which hills justify escalation.

Stabilise before improving: establish what it does from behaviour and data, add monitoring and tests around the observable contract, capture what you learn as you learn it, and identify the highest-risk unknown rather than attempting a rewrite. Rewriting an undocumented system you do not yet understand is the classic principal-level mistake, and the panel is watching for whether you reach for it.
