The state's largest healthcare market paying the least of the three is the notable result — southern Nevada draws from a deep pool of trained assistants and from a large hospitality workforce, while northern Nevada has to compete harder for the same people.

The state requires nothing. Nevada does not license, register or certify medical assistants, and no scope of practice for the role is set in state law — what an assistant may do is determined by the delegating physician or advanced practice provider and by employer policy. National certification through the CMA, RMA, NHA or NCCT routes is what employers ask for and is the only portable credential available.

The volume of work is there — Nevada's population growth has outpaced its clinician workforce and ambulatory expansion runs on medical assistant staffing, with roughly 1,070 openings a year pro-rated to the state.
