The bottom of that range is private ambulance work and the top is fire-based and public agency employment, which is the dominant factor in California paramedic pay.

Redding's position reflects the difficulty of staffing far northern California, and it is a pattern worth noticing: rural California pays paramedics well relative to its living costs.
