New York physical therapists earn a median $100,660 a year, $48.39 an hour, per BLS OEWS May 2025, with the middle half between $81,470 and $121,270 and a full range of $73,580 to $136,120. That median sits just under the national figure, which is unusual for a state with New York's living costs.

New York-Newark-Jersey City pays the most at $107,650, ahead of Ithaca at $101,290, Binghamton at $99,670, Kiryas Joel-Poughkeepsie-Newburgh at $97,110 and Glens Falls at $96,170. The presence of two small upstate university-town metros so high in the table reflects academic medical centre and university health system employment rather than local market rates.

Chiefly because of how outpatient care is paid for here. New York's no-fault automobile and workers compensation fee schedules set low ceilings for physical therapy, and commercial reimbursement in the state has followed them down. Outpatient orthopaedics is the largest employer of physical therapists in New York, so a squeezed outpatient rate pulls the whole statewide distribution toward the middle.
