Boards differ in the detail that matters: some require a minimum share of hours in specific categories such as commercial or industrial installation, some accept credit toward hours for approved technical schooling, and a few set the figure somewhat lower or higher. Electricians who pass generally credit a tabbed codebook and repeated timed calculation practice rather than extra theory study.
