Lafayette, at $61,880, and by a wide margin — it is the only Louisiana metro above the national median. Alexandria's EMS demand is met more heavily by public services working from municipal and parish budgets, which price against local wage norms rather than against competing employers. That is also why the paramedic metro table has a ten-thousand-dollar spread while the state's EMT table spans barely two thousand dollars — the competitive bidding happens at the advanced level, where the certification takes years to replace.

Hours. EMS in Louisiana runs long shifts — 24-hour and extended rotations are standard — and overtime is routine rather than exceptional.
