What is ELDT and does it apply to my hire?

Entry-Level Driver Training is the FMCSA rule that applies to anyone obtaining a first Class A or Class B CDL, upgrading from B to A, or obtaining a first hazmat, passenger, or school-bus endorsement, on a commercial learner's permit issued on or after 7 February 2022. The training must come from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, and we confirm registry-listed completion rather than a course certificate alone.

What do CDL drivers earn, and how should we budget an offer?

Per BLS OEWS May 2025, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (SOC 53-3032) earn a national median of $58,640 a year, $28.19 an hour, across 2,062,040 drivers, and BLS projects about 237,600 openings a year through 2034. One important caveat we will not paper over: OEWS publishes a single median for the occupation and does not break it out by licence class or endorsement, so while tanker, hazmat, and doubles work does pay a premium in the market, no BLS figure quantifies it and we do not invent one.
