Louisiana EMTs earn a median $35,870 a year, or $17.25 an hour, per BLS OEWS May 2025, with a band from $27,390 at the 10th percentile to $46,460 at the 90th. That is 19.3% below the national median of $44,470. What the median hides is how tight the middle is: the 25th percentile of $29,240 and the 75th of $38,110 bracket half the state's EMTs inside a nine-thousand-dollar range.

Slidell-Mandeville-Covington, at $37,680, then Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux $36,290, Lake Charles $36,260, Baton Rouge $36,050 and Alexandria $35,680. The whole table spans about two thousand dollars, which is small enough that commuting costs would erase most of the difference. Slidell-Mandeville-Covington's edge reflects a suburban North Shore service area rather than any structural premium.

Complete a state-approved EMT education programme, pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians cognitive and psychomotor examinations, and apply for certification from the Louisiana Department of Health's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
